Your efforts can improve our air quality, protect the health of our community, and reduce traffic congestion. Your daily commute choice will make a big difference to the future quality of life. Why not take transit or carpool today! |
MarinRIDEshares
is a $361,700 grant awarded to the County of Marin by the Bay Area
Air Quality Management District. The MarinRIDEshares program is
dedicated to improving the air that we breathe and preserving the quality
of our lives by offering programs to encourage commuters to take transit
and carpool to work and school, rather than driving alone.
If you commute, you have spent time stuck in traffic on 101 and on local streets and roads. One of the most significant challenge we all face is traffic congestion. Gridlock continues to be the #1 problem in the region and paralyzes our communities. We lose valuable time each day! In 1996, residents in the nine Bay Area counties spent a collective 90,000 hours per day sitting in congestion, a 31% increase from the previous year. The EPA states that the Bay Area air is not clean enough and is required to develop a smog reduction plan to address not meeting public health standards for smog. Smog affects all of us. Those most affected by air pollution are our children, those who suffer from lung and heart disease, the elderly and athletes. What can you do? Plenty! Simply by taking transit or carpooling each day or whenever possible your actions can result in a change for all of us. MarinRIDEshares offers 3 alternatives to driving alone: The Quality Commute Program is a transit incentive program! Start taking transit and purchase two Golden Gate Transit ticket books and get a third book FREE! The RIDEmatching Program for Marin County residents. To join just fill out the Carpool Reply Card.
